PFlexPRO P60 drop ins are made with the potting material recessed around the perimeter of the pill to ensure proper contact with hosts like Surefire that do not use the large outer spring. You can see from the cut-away graphic some the thermal improvements made to the P60 design. The thermal optimizations allow the drop in to reach higher power and light output while remaining in the thermal safe range.

Some of the more innovative design elements include:

'Thermally-Conductive Electrical Isolation Pad' The drawing shows the most direct heat path from the emitter MCPCB is through the top, directly into the reflector. The heat from the MCPCB can travel down into the brass pill platform or up, directly into the reflector.

'High Temperature Thermal Isolation Pad' The emitter has a maximum LED junction temperature of 150°C, in a well designed drop in, this temperature is never reached, but, running continuously, it can easily reach 130°C. The emitter is sitting just above the driver board, which has a maximum temperature of 60°C. The 'thermal isolation pad' blocks the heat from the emitter and protects the driver board from burnout. During the design phase, PFlexPRO products are built in such a way that LED Junction Temperature can be measured and the maximum power is determined to keep the LED in the safe range -(below 130° C). Just because a PFlexPRO product can run safely/continuously at full output doesn't mean another flashlight at the same power level can. Our products run cooler by design as determined by LED Junction Temperature Measurements.

*Copper foil strips are provided with each drop in for creating a thermal bridge to the host. Instructions for installing a dual copper wrap are included. DO NOT use copper tape or aluminum tape with any PFlexPRO drop in. Do Not use aluminum foil with the 3.8A drop in. Please use the supplied copper strips.
